First Birthday Cake Smash in San Tan Valley, Arizona!
I wanted to take a quick second to talk about one of my most favorite sessions to date, meet little Sabastian! Sebsatian’s mom reached out right before his first birthday to do his first birthday cake smash photography session in my San Tan Valley photography studio.
On the day of the session Sebastian was so smiley and curious, as most little birthday babies are when they get into the studio! We captured a few photos of just him showing off his cute personality, I call them personality portraits, before we got to work smashing the cake! Like most babies, Sebastian was hesitant and had a few rough moments but it was nothing we couldn’t fix with a few small breaks to snuggle mom and hear his favorite song, the music portion of the Shohei Ohtani New Balance commercial (I’m not making that up, it was one of the cutest things to watch him dance whenever the music came on).
During the personality portraits, kiddos explore toys and show off their budding personality!
Sebastian’s mama designed her custom balloon garland colors and picked the cake she loved most from my list of options! Here is what she had to say about her experience:
Sebastian’s birthday cake smash with Jen was a dream! She really took my ideas and brought them to life beautifully, I gave her colors we like for him and she took it from there and it exceeded our expectations! When he got fussy she gave us all the time we needed to calm him down and never made us feel bad about it! Her patience, vision and skill were all unmatched! We bought outfits for him and didn’t even need them because of her closet of outfits she provided with our theme and colors in mind! I will forever use her for all of our kids photos. The entire gallery came out gorgeous and we couldn’t be more thankful!
We were a bit unsure of the cake… buttercream can be weird!
There are definitely a handful of babies who just don’t love the taste or texture of the cake. Preparation is key, I mean could you just show up to a strangers home studio and eat cake while someone takes your photos…. well…. maybe… but we also aren’t one year old! I can’t guarantee the prep guide I provide after booking will turn your kiddo into a cake lover, but preparation might help!
To round it all out, Sebastian splashed in a tiny bathtub to clean off the buttercream cake frosting! He loved hanging off the side to see the puddles he was making! The splash is the most fun way to clean up after destroying a birthday cake. With several options for tiny tubs, I am bound to have something that fits your vision. The clear tub is definitely a mommy favorite, I mean come on, look at his toes!
Sebastian’s cake smash session was my first time doing a cake smash balloon garland and it absolutely won’t be the last! This simple and beautiful way to add color to a cake smash still lets the birthday baby’s personality shine bright. Since this session my balloon garland cake smash session has exploded in popularity! Follow along this crazy journey on my Instagram!
